THE ALPHABET KILLER
THE ALPHABET KILLER
The Story:
The Alphabet Killer is based on the double initial killings in Rochester, New York in the early 1970s.
Megan Paige (Eliza Dushku) is an investigator for the Rochester Police Department who is assigned to investigate the murder of a young girl named Carla Castillo, whose body is found in the nearby village of Churchville covered in cat hair. Against opposition of her colleagues and partner-boyfriend Kenneth Shine (Cary Elwes), Megan insists that the murder is a work of a serial killer. Despite Megan’s considerable efforts, she fails to catch the killer. Stress and obsession of the investigation causes Megan to hallucinate the victim's image. She ultimately has a nervous breakdown and tries to commit suicide.
Following two years of medical treatment and attending mental illness support group headed by Richard Ledge (Timothy Hutton), Megan rejoins the police department in a clerical job.
When another girl, Wendy Walsh is abducted, raped and murdered in Webster, Megan is convinced that the killer has resurfaced and her old fire is reheated. Against his better judgement, Kenneth allows Megan to ride along with investigator Stephen Harper (Tom Malloy), but only in an advisory capacity. However, soon after she is in the thick of things, her old symptoms start coming back, namely in the form of hallucinations of both dead girls now. Ledge tells her that she’s flirting with disaster. Megan knows that the case is in danger of going cold with few leads, no suspects, and a serial killer on the loose. Can she catch him in time? Or will the “Alphabet Killer” go free?
Megan sets out to find the killer, and this time she plans to get the job done, with or without the department's assistance.
