LITTLE NEW YORK
LITTLE NEW YORK (STATEN ISLAND)
The Story:
The lives of three residents of New York's Staten Island intersect as they struggle to get ahead...
First section, local Mafia boss Parmelo "Parmy" Tarzo (Vincent D'Onofrio), unveils to underlings his plan to take over all the organized crime on Staten Island. But someone betrays him, and after an unsuccessful assassination attempt, Parmy takes refuge up a tree in a woodland skedded for deforestation, drawing media attention.
Second section finds septic-tank cleaner Sully (Eathan Hawke), who's ashamed of his low IQ, devising a plan to rob Parmy to obtain $50,000. With the money, Sully and his missus, Mary (Julianne Nicholson), can take part in an in-vitro fertilization study that pre-selects fetuses for intelligence.
Third and last section focuses on deaf-mute deli man Jasper (Seymour Cassel), a friend of Sully's, who's been forced by Parmy's gang for years to carve up the corpses of those they've whacked.
Once that's been established, it's not hard to predict where the story's going, although a few pleasurable twists lie in wait.

TABLE FOR THREE
TABLE for THREE
The Story:
Scott Teller (Brandon Routh) has just proposed. His would-be fiancée has just thrown up off a rooftop and broken up with him. His roommate has just left for Germany. Now heartbroken (we know this because he’s grown a beard) and living in an empty apartment, Scott places an ad in the paper for someone to share his moroseness and, more importantly, the rent. Enter Ryan (Jesse Bradford) and Mary (Sophia Bush), a Stepford couple who offer to look out for Scott and make sure he doesn’t rush into anything serious too soon. They’re always chipper, fix gourmet brunches, and make sure Scott doesn‘t drunk-dial his ex. But they also roleplay, eavesdrop on Scott’s phone conversations, and take photos of him while he’s sleeping. They would make good serial killers. Their antics from interrupting a private dress rehearsal of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to throwing the world’s worst birthday bash--make it impossible for Scott’s romance with new girl Leslie (Jennifer Morrison),who also has a habit of rushing things with new beaus, to bloom. And that’s just their plan. Scott believes that Ryan and Mary are intentionally sabotaging his chances with her because they desperately need him in their life to hold their dysfunctional relationship together.

Muna's charismatic perf drives the tale of Vince emerging from the shadows upon the return of family friend Noah (Matt Ladmirault). Duo form an uneasy alliance following the murder of Vince's half-brother (Julian Santos) by a scary Japanese assassin (Dion Lizama) seeking a sacred sword held by the Flores clan. Details of the invented legend are overly elaborated, but Vince's reformation in the midst of bloodshed commands attention. Based on a universal theme of family, faith and forgiveness.

The Story:
Avery "Av" Ludlow (Brian Cox) is a retired Korean War veteran with a tragic past that has cost him both his wife and his two sons. The only things he has left in the world are his farmhouse, the general store he owns and his 14-year-old dog, Red, a gift from his late wife. In the blink of an eye, however, one of those things is violently taken from him.
Three mischievous teens out hunting in the woods callously shoot and kill Red while trying to rob Av. After burying his best friend, Av uses his knowledge of firearms, some deductive reasoning and a bit of small-town charm to find out who the culprits are. The ringleader is Danny McCormack (Noel Fisher), a hot-tempered Aryan poster child from a "new money" family with some unscrupulous ties. His brother, Harold (Kyle Gallner), is a good kid who tries to be the peacemaker during the robbery but is bullied into complying. The third kid is Pete Doust (Shiloh Fernandez), a poor kid from the wrong part of town who's hesitant to shoot the dog but laughs about it afterwards.
Av visits the McCormack home to speak to the father (Tom Sizemore), but he dismisses Av's complaint when Danny denies even being at the scene. Mr. McCormack hides behind a wall of money and power, challenging Av to sue him. Av, of course, can't hire a big-time attorney, and despite the aid of local TV news reporter Carrie Donnel (Kim Dickens), the district attorney -- presumably in McCormack's pocket refuses to prosecute. It seems that animals are treated by the law as property anyway, and killing one would likely result in only a $100 fine and little or no jail time. Av hits a similar dead end with Pete's parents (Robert Englund and Amanda Plummer).
Av wants little more than an apology, but with nowhere left to turn, he resorts to more confrontational methods, and what was once a battle of wills turns into an all-out physical war, with casualties on both sides.
