LA RAGAZZA DEL LAGO (THE GIRL BY THE LAKE)

La ragazza del lago (The Girl By The Lake) (Italian)

The Story:
It is eight o’clock in the morning when Marta (Nicole Perrone), biting a doughnut, is returning home after having slept at her aunt’s house. A truck stops: Mario (Franco Ravera), a deranged local young man, convinces her to follow him to his farm. The alarm goes off immediately, Marta is only six years old.

Inspector Sanzio (Toni Servillo), an experienced policeman, who recently moved to that remote area comes to the town. The younger collegue Siboldi, born in those valleys, becomes his guide also to get to know the family ties and relationships of that small community.

The two of them, accompanied by Alfredo (Nello Mascia), Sanzio’s loyal collegue since his time in homicide, will have to stay in town because another crime is about to be committed; a crime probably connected to one of the families in the village, born from a sentimental or emotional tie: everyone that Sanzio meets and interrogates could be a potential killer. The inspector enters into the story with unusual participation: even his own family is crossed by a sharp pain that runs parallel to the investigation.

THE BOYS ARE BACK

THE BOYS ARE BACK

The Story:
Inspired by a true story, Joe Warr (Clive Owen) is a witty, wisecracking, action-oriented sportswriter who, in the wake of his wife's tragic death, finds himself in a sudden, stultifying state of single parenthood. With turbulent emotions swirling just below the surface, Joe throws himself into the only child-rearing philosophy he thinks has a shot at bringing joy back into their lives: "just says yes."

Raising two boys - a curious six year-old (Nicholas McAnulty) and a rebel teen Harry (George MacKay) from a previous marriage -- in a household devoid of feminine influence, and with an unabashed lack of rules, life becomes exuberant, instinctual, reckless . . . and on the constant verge of disaster.

United by unspoken love, conflicted by fierce feelings and in search of a road forward, the three multi-generational boys of the Warr household, father and sons alike, must each find their own way, however tenuous, to grow up.
